Clinical Trial: Automated Assessment of Mental Health in the Workplace

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to design, refine, and test for effectiveness a computer-based telephone system (TLC-Detect) that will screen workers for mental health distress, educate them about seeking treatment, and follow up with them over a 12 month period.

Primary Outcomes: Absenteeism and presentism (functionality at work), measured every three months for one year
Secondary Outcomes: Treatment status, timing of measurement depends upon symptom severity; Health Status measured every three months for one year
Expected Total Enrollment: 390

Eligibility
Ages Eligible for Study: 18 Years and above, Genders Eligible for Study: Both
Criteria
Inclusion Criteria:
- Employment at Boston Medical Center, Boston University, or Florida Power and Light Company
- Ability to speak and understand conversational English
- > 18 years of age
- Access to a touch-tone telephone
- Screen positive for the WHO-5 Well-Being Index.
Exclusion Criteria:
- Being under treatment (medication or therapy) for a mental health disorder
- Having organic brain disease, e.g., Alzheimer''''s Disease or other dementias
- Having a life threatening physical illness such as cancer (undergoing radiation therapy or chemotherapy), chronic renal failure, end stage coronary artery disease, etc.
- Diagnosed with schizophrenia
