Clinical Trial: The Study of Olanzapine Plus Fluoxetine in Combination for Treatment-Resistant Depression Without Psychotic Features

Purpose

The purposes of this study are to determine:

  • Whether olanzapine plus fluoxetine in combination will help patients with treatment-resistant major depression.
  • The safety of olanzapine plus fluoxetine in combination, plus and any side effects that might be associated with the combination.
  • The effectiveness of olanzapine plus fluoxetine compared to olanzapine and fluoxetine alone.

Eligibility

Ages Eligible for Study:  18 Years   -   65 Years,  Genders Eligible for Study:  Both

Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Depressed at least 2 weeks
  • At least in a second episode of depression
  • Did not respond to an antidepressant medication during the current episode.
  • Male or female subjects, 18 to 65 years of age
  • Must meet entry severity criterion

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Prior use of the combined treatment of the 2 study drugs used in this study.
  • Serious and unstable medical conditions.
  • Other psychiatric illnesses not allowed by the protocol, for example, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or bipolar I disorder)
  • Current substance abuse or dependence disorders.
