|
Thimerosal (sometimes spelled as thimerosol and 'thiomersal) (trade name: Merthiolate) is an organometallic compound used commonly since the 1930s as a preservative in some vaccines, cosmetics, tattoo inks, eye drops, and contact lens solutions. Such use has become increasingly controversial in recent years, due to concerns about potential neurotoxic properties of the mercury containing compound.
