Test Lung
This is one of the test lungs we use in lab in the Respiratory Care program at Spokane Community College SCC You can adjust lung compliance up and down how easily it expands retracts and airway resistance how easy it is to get air in and out to see how the different levels of resistance and compliance affects mechanical ventilator settings It has three springs you can connect to the bellows to chance the compliance as shown The lower the compliance the harder it is to push air into it which resembles acute respiratory distress syndrome ARDS or a form of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD called Cystic Fibrosis CF and various other things that lowers compliance Higher than normal compliance is found diseases like emphysema The difference is CF patients have a hard time getting air in but blow it out really easily where emphysema patients have no problem getting it in but its hard for them to blow it out since the lungs are kinda quot floppy quot Its like the difference between a latex balloon and a mylar balloon
