The Common Cold A Respiratory Tract Infection
It s impossible to count all the colds I ve had in my life When I was a kid in school they were numerous and I remember my mother s remedies During the day she would prepare me a steam bath with Vick s I can still remember myself bent over the steaming water bowl with a towel around my head the strong eucalyptus smell completely taking my breath away and thinking I would die under that towel But I survived and my stuffed up nose would actually feel better Then at night before sleeping she would put some Vick s under my nose and massage some on my chest in the front and back and that would clear up the congestion during the night And of course in the morning with breakfast she would have fresh orange juice for me And most of all I remember her loving care which counted for at least half of the cure

Myrmecia tepperi
On the way back to the car the other night I stopped to check out a fairly large <i>Eucalyptus< i> tree After poking around for a while I was rewards with this pretty little Myrmecia It is a medium sized bullant sitting at around 12mm in length It didn t do the whole quot jack jumper quot thing being somewhat larger and more robust than those species It has a very subtle beauty with that lovely golden pubescence only on 3 apical segments of its gaster Some bullants can be quite striking such as this <a href= http www flickr com photos jean hort 3544812385 ><i>M piliventris< i>< a> Jean photographed a while ago Tonight I had some time and so I used the <i>Myrmecia< i> <a href= http anic ento csiro au ants biota details aspx BiotaID=37361 rel= nofollow >key< a> to ID it It is a <a href= http anic ento csiro au ants biota details aspx biotaid=37586 rel= nofollow ><i>M tepperi< i>< a> The following characteristics seperate it from other ants in the <i>tepperi< i> species group quot Pubescence dense golden yellow on three apical segments of gaster blackish brown mandibles antennae and legs brown quot Going by the distribution map of this species there seems to be 3 distinct populations one in the southwest of Western Australia one in South Australia and another in NSW Looking at the <a href= http anic ento csiro au ants image details aspx ImageID=1479 rel= nofollow >photos< a> of the holotype from South Australia you can see that the specimen is much more brown in colour than the one I found This sort of variance is common in populations of the same species that are geographically seperated Cosindering how cold it was that night this worker was suprisingly alert see below It seemed to be taking shelter under a large piece of loose bark which was strange given the time of night I would have thought that most workers would have returned to the nest by now but
