October is breast cancer awareness month Next time your in line at the grocery store and get pissed off at the cashier for asking you if you would like to donate to breast cancer research Remember that every penny counts and we aren t trying to take your money If you don t have any to spare we understand but if you can spare even a measly two cents it will add up and helps us get a little closer to discovering a cure Safeway alone has raised nearly $41 million for breast cancer research since 2001 During October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month the company will add significantly to that number through a range of additional fundraising programs at its local stores For example the stores will sell reusable grocery bags that sport the pink ribbon logo and the words quot Support the Cause quot 100 of the proceeds from each $1 99 bag sold will go to breast cancer research Safeway and vendor partners will contribute to the breast cancer campaign when customers purchase specially marked products in stores In addition Safeway will be a major regional sponsor of 10 Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation quot Race for the Cure quot events across the U S as well as other breast cancer awareness community events Saving womens breast isn t all about being vain they were put here for a reason Not to mention the fact that people both men and women die from breast cancer every year Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women today after lung cancer and is the most common cancer among women excluding nonmelanoma skin cancers According to the American Cancer Society about 1 3 million women will be diagnosed with breast cancer annualluy worldwide about 465 000 will die from the disease Breast cancer death rates have been dropping steadily since 1990 according to the Society because of earlier detection and better treatments <a href= http www nationalbreastcancer org >http www nationalbreastcancer org < a> Also my picture for week 2 of 52 we
