WOOD CHIPPER CHEWS KITTEN On June 20 2006 a woman called to ask if I could help a skinny 8 week old kitten that had been sleeping inside a tree chipper a machine that chews up tree branches and spits out the resulting mulch Not knowing that the kitten was sleeping inside the machine a work crew had started it up and out came the screaming barely alive kitten Hi I m Maury Swee President of The quot 10th Life quot Sanctuary Inc The caller asked if I could come get the kitten and take it to a vet She had no transportation and could not afford a vet It was 9 in the morning and the quot accident quot happened at 7 No one had done anything to help the kitten who had been writhing in pain I agreed to take the kitten I didn t believe her story how could a really small kitten climb up into the hopper But my objective was not to determine how it got there was there abuse did someone throw the kitten in the objective was to get the kitten to my vet as fast as possible It took me almost an hour to get to the agreed upon meeting place she didn t want me to come to her house we met at a nearby gas station The poor kitten suffered another hour of pain as I rushed to meet the woman at the gas station With hardly a word to the woman I grabbed the box she d put the kitten in and headed to Dr Zeitlin s animal hospital in West Palm Beach It was the longest 20 minute ride I ve ever had The kitten looked very bad and every few seconds it would scream in pain as it moved around There were obvious head wounds and the right front leg looked like it was broken in two places The left front leg just dangled The kitten s head rolled around I hate traffic lights Every one was red as I rushed to Dr Z I called ahead to let him know the situation and begged him to please be ready to examine this baby when I got there Tough decisions would have to be made in the next few minutes It was going to be heart wrenching
Sometimes things get harder
before they get easier Today was tough I ve had some fairly traumatic things happen to me in my life but lately it feels like I haven t been coping as well as usual Old ghosts have been hanging about needing to be exorcised Ever since a car accident a year and a half ago I am too often triggered easily startled and overly sensitive especially to loud noises I think I m accurately labeling this PTSD I ve also been dealing with fairly frequent back pain and all this nervousness certainly doesn t help with that So it seems that the old traumas both physical and psychic injuries that have never quite healed have decided to join hands making each one a little bit stronger Throw in some hormones and I can get pretty teary Work is often stressful and keeping it together there can be exhausting I want and need my job so quot survival mode quot is a pretty accurate description of my work life much of the time As a result I need a lot of down time solitude sometimes spending entire weekends alone before heading back to work on Monday morning It s no wonder I end up feeling lonely What a tail chaser When I went through my heart scare a couple of months ago I was offered an appointment at Kaiser to do some EMDR a hypnotherapy like treatment that is good for healing traumas quickly and deeply I had to wait a long time for this first appointment which was today but finally I met the doc I ll be working with for a few sessions and see if we can get this handled No treatment today but a wham bam history this is my life these are my traumas let s form a strategy meeting all in 45 minutes It has felt a lot like lancing a boil opening up old wounds picking the scab on a festering sore whatever nasty analogy you might want to come up with And I feel pretty raw Going back to work after the session was a real drag let me tell you Anyway I m happy to have this opportunity to put some things to rest And I m clear that the only way past this is quot through quo

Medical Evacuation helicopter
A patient is delivered by helicopter to Berlin s Accident Hospital More seriously wounded patients might survive if they were put into a state of suspended animation before they got transported Medicine Round Trip Journeys to the Afterworld By Jörg Blech Researchers allow pigs and dogs to bleed to death fill their bodies with cold saline solution and then bring the dead animals back to life a few hours later The ability to switch living beings off and then on again could revolutionize medicine especially treatment of bleeding victims or heart attack patients First the heart begins to beat and then the pig starts breathing Finally it stands up and looks curiously at the man in the lab coat standing outside its cage quot This animal was dead for several hours quot says Hasan Alam 39 a surgeon at Boston s Massachusetts General Hospital quot But we brought it back And now it s here again quot The same magic forces seem to be at work in the animal research facility of the General Hospital of the City of Vienna Pigs are suddenly opening their eyes after their hearts were stopped with electric shocks and they lay dead for half an hour quot The miracle quot says Wilhelm Behringer 39 a physician specializing in emergency medicine quot is that the animals return to life without neurological damage quot In the last few years the two research groups have sent a hundred pigs on round trip journeys into the afterworld using variations on the same trick in each case The physicians flood the animals bodies with several liters of a saline solution that s been cooled to about two degrees C 36° F This puts the animals into a mysterious state of suspended animation that prevents the cells of their lifeless bodies from dying off None of the animals feel pain because the experiments are done under full anesthesia Until now we ve left it to science fiction writers to describe what it might be like to take a break from life and then return at some point in the future Only in science

<i>Crashed on the floor when I moved in This little bungalow with some strange new friends Stay up too late and I m too thin We promise each other it s til the end Now we re spinning empty bottles It s the five of us With pretty eyed boys girls die to trust I can t resist the day No I can t resist the day Jenny screams out and it s no pose Cause when she dances she goes and goes Beer through the nose on an inside joke And I m so excited I haven t spoken And she s so pretty and she s so sure Maybe I m more clever than a girl like her Summer s all in bloom Summer is ending soon It s alright and it s nice not to be so alone But I hold on to your secrets in white houses Maybe I m a little bit over my head I come undone at the things he said And he s so funny in his bright red shirt We were all in love and we all got hurt I sneak into his car s cracked leather seat The smell of gasoline in the summer heat Boy we re going way too fast It s all too sweet to last It s alright And I put myself in his hands But I hold on to your secrets in white houses Love or something ignites in my veins And I pray it never fades in white houses My first time hard to explain Rush of blood oh and a little bit of pain On a cloudy day it s more common than you think He s my first mistake Maybe you were all faster than me We gave each other up so easily These silly little wounds will never mend I feel so far from where I ve been So I go and I will not be back here again I m gone as the day is fading on white houses I lied wrote my injuries all in the dust In my heart is the five of us In white houses And you maybe you ll remember me What I gave is yours to keep In white houses x3 < i> White Houses Vanessa Carlton Today was too much fun to have to go home D <a href= http bighugelabs com flickr onblack php id=3430997132 rel= nofollow >View On Black< a> Best at 363

My tough cookie of a wife
We were riding down a fairly downhill portion of the Eastern park connector network on Saturday and I told everyone to control their descent but the wife hit 30kmh and fell down She didn t break anything but got some cuts and bruises on her face both palms both hands both knees left shoulder and right elbow She sat up and asked me to take a photo of her so she could see how badly her face got hit and even remembered to smile She did not cry did not complain did not flinch and even got worried that the rest of our party would not continue riding Then the tough cookie said to me as we went back to in cab to see our family doctor to get her wounds cleaned and dressed quot Next time I go down that slope I will know better quot I raised one eyebrow and gave her a look that said quot Still got NEXT TIME Wah you the can quot In fact she was more upset that she could not finish the Eastern Loop quot Just as I was enjoying myself breezing downhill had to fall aiyah quot I was pale with worry and she just took it all in her stride Back home Joy saw mommy s injuries and said quot Mommy pain pain ah quot Yes my wife replied quot Wah appen quot asked the 2 year old Mommy fell down riding bicycle Joy Joy replied the wife And to our surprise Joy offered to blow on her wounds to make it better Where do kids pick up these things
poor little ginga has been badly injured o
For the second time recently Ginga has caused me a lot of heartache and concern a few weeks ago he dissappeared and I was worried he s been hit by a car or something He showed up by himself and was absolutely OK I think he d just gotten locked in someones garage or something Late last night he had me really worried again He staggered inside soaked with rain covered in mud shivering uncontrollably and hardly able to walk This time I really thought he had been hit by a car or something I tried to clean him up and see how badly he was injured He s in a lot of pain and discomfort but I don t think he was hit by a car it looks more like he has been in an almighty fight with something maybe a dog He has what appear to be some bite wounds on his rear legs around his tail and lower back He spent the night hiding under my bed and wouldn t let me near him after I tried cleaning him up Today he seems slightly better and let me lift him onto my bed where he can be more comfortable and warm and I ve spent the day making sure he s OK and that Rastus doesn t harrass him I managed to get an appointment for him at the vet this afternoon cos i want him to be ok and want to make sure he doesn t have any unseen or internal injuries so we ll be heading off there shortly I hope he s gonna be OK Wish him luck

Aegyptia Elvehjem climbed the ropes and sank into the old weathered bed staring at the stars at freedom it felt so good to her the open air her brother there and them both safe Shilandar Deledda moved up the ropes as well and too dropped down beside his sister though he first shed the coat which adorned his body The weapons that were within its pockets were shed like unwanted hubris this being the one place that they could truly feel at east without the walls of Bangkok surrounding them quot You re safe again finally quot Aegyptia Elvehjem turns over and lays atop her brother looking deep into his eyes a small tear forming she could not help it quot I feel so worn more like 1000 years old than a mere 100 Chi I never thought I would see you again I did not want to live without you quot Shilandar Deledda coiled an arm about her waist when his sibling mounted his laying body holding her tightly to him as if still afraid the UAC might drop from the skies somehow and acquire her yet again quot You terrified me this time Seeing you in those stocks in that cage I was ready to burn them all to get to you but I never knew if I d get you back before that maniac did something irreparable quot It seemed saying her death aloud would not pass by his own lips using his free hand to caress her cheek Catching tear with tongue and ingesting the motion bringing a shudder to his body which told the lie of just what else he had missed Aegyptia Elvehjem blinks at her brother s licks smiling warmly and laying her head down breathing deeply his masculine scent quot there is so much of it I don t even remember time lost in darkness and when I look there all I see or feel is fear quot arms would tighten on her brother as if his presence would somehow scare away the demons she felt cold haunting her blood Shilandar Deledda shuddered at his sister s body atop his own but for the time being was more than content simply remembering with their bodies that she was again out of the hold
