Jordan his dog Zero and his green violin The current hurdle seems to be finding permanent affordable housing which is so scarce in Vancouver It has become almost nonexistent as more and more low cost hotels are torn down in exchange for high cost condos to accommodate the 2010 Olympics This week 3 such hotels dumped their tenants onto the street yesterday another with 90 occupants who will have no low cost alternative so many will end up on the streets This is the huge dilemma an enormous travesty Jordan and I meet today with another housing counsellor from Covenant House so see if they have any ideas for housing for him in January after the YMCA closes I am also looking to get him a computer and to teach him graphics and animation

Did FOX really reject this pilot I missed the Friday June 26 premiere of Virtuality a Sci Fi TV movie it was actually a pilot for a TV series not a movie and thus had to catch up and acquire it after the fact Why did I miss it Hmm let me think ¦ Could it be that there was virtually NO PUBLICITY And now the rumour is that FOX has decided not to pick it up as a series Instead they hid the movie on a Friday night with practically no buzz Nice one It s a small wonder that Virtuality did not score high in America s far too powerful Nielsen Ratings no one knew about it One has to wonder about Fox TV sometimes Here they have a glossy new high budget high quality pilot made by the current god of television Sci Fi Ronald D Moore and they don t promote it He should be rubber stamped for a new series for frack sake This guy can do no wrong He was the main man behind Battlestar Galactica arguably the most successful Sci Fi of all time in terms of its double whammy of popularity and critical acclaim And before that he headed up a couple of series for an obscure franchise called Star Trek Heard of that one Moore brings along his bud Michael Taylor Battlestar Galactica Star Trek Voyager and director Peter Berg from the critically acclaimed Friday Night Lights and immensely entertaining Hancock It seems like a no brainer as much as choosing a TV series could ever be easy People might be surprised that I love Virtuality because it is about a reality show and I generally cannot abide those But it isn t a REAL reality show The premise is that 12 astronauts go off on a 10 year mission sound familiar to save earth from global warming okay that part I thought was silly but the twist is that much of their lives are filmed then edited and beamed back to earth as a reality TV series called Edge of Never Life on the Phaeton An integral extra level to the show is that the crew has access to virtual reality entertainment a nice throwback to Moore s work with Star Trek s Holodeck although

Your life can be going along in its comfortable rut comfortable because you know what to expect comfortable because you no longer have to stretch beyond what you re sure you can reach when the fates decide it is time to flood the stagnant pool For the last three and a half years I have both loved and hated my job I enjoyed the contact with the students helping them meet their financial needs so they could continue their studies to fulfill their dream career It is this human contact I enjoyed It was the nothing personal just business attitude of the corporate mindset that expounded customer service the student s needs first and institutional effectiveness but really only valuing the amount of profit each month that really rubbed me the wrong way I understand that it was a for profit school but maybe I am naïve I believe that if you really strive to give excellent service and keep the customer satisfied the profit result barring gross mismanagement will automatically follow I also believe word of mouth can make or break a company With the unattainable goals the company set for the staff and the unreasonable demands that were required of the faculty the student as well as the employee suffered There were many days when the pluses of my job were outweighed by the minuses and yet I still would not take the leap to a new job partly because the people I worked with were easy to be around amid the stresses we did support each other Also too many times I have seen people leave only to end up in worse circumstances Remaining I knew what to expect And then the rumors began A mother of one of my students confided in me that she had heard from her daughter that the school was going to be closing Our school had just recently been removed from probation and I had seen some positive moves to a promising direction I let the parent know that I had not heard anything indicating that closure was true Yes they had closed a floor due to the decrease in the student body but the
