The Human Brain Its one Amazing Machine Wax Model Science
I know it looks wierd maybe even science fiction or horror bizzare but on the other hand its beautiful and of course amazingly complex like the deepest part of the ocean or the vast universe something still to be explored This is a model made for medical students in the 19th century in Austria We can be glad they had them to learn about our bodies and to perform surguries in a much safer way Just think of all the thinks we do with this invent machines write plays run races you name it and the brain does it good bad and otherwise One of the thousand of incredible items on display in this astouding museum Yes this is show upside down to display the medula and nervous system connections

The majority of the nerves are considered to be mixed nerves while there are a few wayward nerves that are special and are comprised only of sensory neurons Sensory neurons have

150 365 BRAIN FREEZE
Day 150 of the 365 Journey TODAY was 96 Degrees Talk about HOT If you were standing in the right place at the right time you might have caught a breeze but it wasn t nearly enough to make much of a difference We got up this morning and helped a friend out with some much needed puppy socialization He and his girlfriend picked up a stray Siberian husky from the pound a few months ago The little guy 53 lbs seems to be pretty good by himself he just freaks out when other canines come into the equation So we ALL went on a nice LOOONG walk to help the little guy work though his issues I think with our friends structured routines and a counter balance of love and affection the year and half old man s best friend will turn out to be a great companion Did I mention the dogs had a BLAST in the pool The entire back yard was pretty soaked haha NOW EVERYONE that has EVER had a Slurpee knows exactly what BRAIN FREEZE is Even on a day like today where you work up a sweat just opening the front door brain freeze is NOT welcomed I don t care if the name implies cold chilling sensations or not THAT CRAP FRICKEN HURTS The worst is when it sloooooowly sneaks up on you I actually learned a useful tidbit of info a few years ago about the throbbing cold sensation The nerves in that actually freeze are located on the roof of your mouth If you take your tongue which is primarily warm even stil and press it against the top you can USUALLY curve the pain and perhaps even stop it if you re quick enough TRUST me it works I eat enough ice cream to know this trick intimately Oh yea It s my day 150 I know it s not half way there but it still seems like a big milestone right Strobist Shutter Speed 1 160 Aperture 6 4 ISO 100 Focal Length 37mm White Bal Auto 580exII Camera left with 45 shoot thru umbrella at 1 4 power 5ft from subject 580exII Camera right with 45 shoot thru umbrella at 1 2 power 5ft from subject

Nerves serve as the wires of the body that carry information to and from the brain Motor nerves carry messages from the brain to muscles to make the body move Sensory nerves carry messages to the brain from different parts of the body to signal pain pressure and temperature While the axon nerve fiber carries only one type of message either motor or sensory most nerves in the body are made up of both

Fig 2 The base of the human brain drawn by Christopher Wren
Fig 2 The base of the human brain drawn by Christopher Wren from Cerebri anatome 1664 by Thomas Willis showing the optic nerves E meeting in the optic chiasm and the optic tracts continuing into the hemispheres of the brain Wellcome Institute Library London Nothing at all is visible to one side of a precise vertical line through the middle of whatever the patient is looking at Remarkably patients with this condition are sometimes unaware that they are half blind they complain of not being able to read normally or not being able to drive as well as they used to This points up a sensible but surprising property of vision that it is concerned with what we can see and not with what we cannot see Think of how indifferent we are to the fact that we cannot see behind our heads Equally we are normally unaware that most of the visual field except that part falling on the fovea is represented in the brain with very poor detail and colour hemianopia This means that damage to the visual pathway on one side of the brain causes blindness or partial blindness in both eyes on the opposite side of the visual field Interruption of one optic tract causes total blindness in the opposite half of the visual field In Dickens contain a mixture of fibres from geometrically corresponding halves of the two retinas which because of optical inversion of the image view the opposite half of the visual world Essentially this arrangement splits the representation of the visual field neatly into two The right side of the field is viewed by the left cerebral hemisphere the left side by the right This fits with a general rule that the left hemisphere is concerned with everything to the right of the body the skin of right side control of the muscles of the right side even sounds coming from the right while the right hemisphere is devoted to the left side of the body Pickwick Papers Sam Weller says optic tracts Thus the arms of the optic chiasma that point towards the brain called the Yes I have a pair
