I just found out my puppy is going to need surgery to fix his liver shunt so I decided to post some pictures from Luke s colectomy three years ago He had the surgery at the Northwest Vet Specialists in Clackamas Oregon which is where I ll be taking Curly Joe sometime soon for his surgery They re a great bunch Luke was in good hands so I know Curly Joe will be fine Luke had mega colon for the last five years of his life I won t get into the details but he had chronic diarrhea and needed medication every eight hours every day of his life When someone finally told me that a colectomy would resolve a lot of Luke s problems I made an appointment ASAP It was one of the hardest things I ve ever done leaving him there But the last thing I did was I pat Luke s belly and say quot Goodbye colon I can t say I ll be sorry to see you go Frankly you ve been nothing but trouble and I m sick of your shit quot Though Luke has some minor complications post op and had to stay two extra days the surgery was a success I was expecting to get another year out of him at the most but Luke lived another two years until he was diagnosed with cancer January of 07 I set up shop in the office while Luke recovered It was important to keep him still and quiet and make sure he didn t worry his staples We got some thick foam padding covered it with blankets and put it on the floor and that is where Luke hung out for a couple of weeks post op He had a Fentanyl patch on his neck plus I was giving him Tramadol so Luke was feeling reeeeeeeeally good So good in fact that he wanted to run around and play all the time We had to tether him to the couch to keep him still
