Acupuncture anaesthesia Shanghai 1977
One of our Shanghai experiences was a hospital visit This lady is having an ovarian cyst removed under acupuncture anaesthesia We watched the procedure for some time The patient was awake and smiling up at us Our guide told us that should there be a problem with the acupuncture the anaesthetist was ready to give her proper anaesthetic This make me wonder why we have to be pumped full of drugs when we have surgery here 30 years later More notes to answer Luisa s and phibsboro s questions We were on an Australia China Society educational tour They took us to schools universities factories farms hospitals museums theatre historic sites It was a great tour Of course we were constantly fed political propaganda but nobody could deny that some aspects of life were better for many people than they were before The Chinese were rightly proud of the way they were blending traditional Chinese medicine with western medicine The visit to the observation room above the operating theatre normally for students was a great demonstration of this blending Generally we could take any photos we liked They had roughly assembled earthquake shelters in the streets of Beijing They did not want us to photograph them apparently in case somebody thought it was permanent sub standard accommodation Since then I have experienced acupuncture anaesthesia myself My dentist in Tasmania used it I still felt things but was somehow detached Photo © Jude Maisch 1977 35 mm slide scan by <a href= http www oscans com target= blank >Oscans bulk slide scanning< a>
