Now this old fella would be my dad Trevor off to bowls the day I left to come back to Sydney I don t think I take much after his side of the family in looks He s 72 now and was rather a good looking man in his young years I ll have to dig up a photo black curly hair and lovely eyes He lost one eye in a farm accident in the 60s and now has a glass eye but Mum said he had the most beautiful eyes before then I did realise something quite surprising though a couple of years ago that I actually got my pale skin tone from him You wouldn t believe it from looking at him he s quite brown and leathery on the arms face and neck from a lifetime in the sun but in the spots that he doesn t show to the sun upper arms legs and torso he s a lily white as me Third generation on this farm he still works the farm at this age Still does most of the heavy jobs he did when he was young even though his eye sight isn t so good and he s had a bad back since his youth when a doctor told him he d be in a wheelchair And he s always been deaf since I ve known him anyway He had damage from ear infections combined with industrial deafness from never wearing protective ear wear around heavy machinery He has something like 20 hearing in one ear and almost none in the other Very annoying for us trying to make ourselves heard and the fact that the tv and radio is up so loud all the time but I can t imagine what it must be like for him He s just gotten on with things typical country person I worry about him working so hard at his age but retirement is not something I think he could do happily I know he ll probably carry on till he can t any longer or he dies He is still pretty damn strong though And has more muscles than most men his age I m sure There are many things I admire about him his honesty integrity generosity and work ethic He s effortlessly charismatic with an ability to effortlessly make people want to move mountains for him with no enticement or manipulation on his part whatsoever Peop
