while flying I always wanted to do that but this time eventually managed to get the Geiger Mueller counter on the plane and checked it myself It s not a lie maximum received radiation level was 2 25 uSv microsievert per hour That translates to 225 microrentgens per hour or about 500 uR per 2 5 hour flight taking into account climb and descent phases This measurement has been taken while flying at cruising altitude FL310 as i have been told by the crew For comparison normal background radiation level where i live in Warsaw is between 0 11 0 18uSv per hour that is about twenty times less Note the genuine belarussian G M counter I have several models of these but this one is very reliable So 88 hours of flying and You get the dose similar to one chest X ray not much but not quite zero either
