amanda mary 3 02p Well Stuart had his cow s milk allergy challenge at the clinic this morning and the results weren t exactly what we d hoped they would be And unfortunately this isn t one of those instances in which I can gleefully interject They were better either I brought in some yogurt which the allergist measured into progressive increments each in a small plastic cup Stuart had to start with the smallest amount which for him was just trace residue left on the spoon wait fifteen minutes be re examined by the doctor eat a slightly more substantial portion and repeat He made his way through the one teaspoon one and a half teaspoon and one tablespoon servings before he started developing hives and redness around his mouth So his threshold seems to be about an ounce of whatever This means nothing really because the concentration of milk protein is going to be different from one food to the next Even one brand of yogurt to the next The doctor wasn t alarmed but per facility policy the challenge had to be discontinued Obviously the point of the test wasn t to see how much yogurt we could compel him to eat before anaphylaxis kicked in It s good to know I guess in spite of the three painfully dull hours spent mostly confined to an 8 x10 office with a kind of sad selection of children s books one was an adaptation of an episode of Scooby Doo another based on the eminently forgettable live action Disney film 10 2 Dalmations then there was a didactic tale about childhood asthma that definitely wasn t written by someone whose trade is children s book authorship The allergist is still hopeful that Stuart will outgrow this as his reaction was amanda mary 3 02p Well Stuart had his cow s milk allergy challenge at the clinic this morning and the results weren t exactly what we d hoped they would be And unfortunately this isn t one of those instances in which I can gleefully interject They were better either I brought in some yogurt which the allergist meas
