World AIDS Day

Today was World AIDS Day Did you know Did you care I ve been working on HIV AIDS education and outreach since I was thirteen years old I found ways to talk about HIV and AIDS in my conservative Catholic high school during graduation no less I ve taught AIDS 101 in the community I ve taken a number of classes covering everything from literature and the epidemic virology pharmaceutical responses activism history I care about this issue to my core It s so easy to not see it To not realize that people around the world are dying from a preventable and manageable but not curable disease Pregnant women NEED meds during pregnancy so as not to pass HIV to their infants this makes transference through childbirth nearly nonexistent Folks taking cocktails of meds NEED support Those meds are hard on the body and if not taken exactly right can lead to viral resistance We NEED to talk about safe sex Heterosexual homosexual non penetrating oral anal if we don t teach safe sex it will not happen Screw abstinence only programs they don t work Period Let s EDUCATE our youth with the information they need to stay safe and healthy We cannot eradicate HIV and AIDS in Africa without learning how cultural practices and history affect transmission In cultures where women use herbs to dry their vaginas so that there is greater friction to please men during intercourse the methods of change cannot be the same we offer to those who have different practices We must take off the blindfolds HIV and AIDS are no longer the quot hot quot news topics they once were I m happy to provide resources to anyone interested But let s not forget about this It s just too costly to our world
