People who smoke have been undergone an odd transformation during my lifetime Growing up I had relatives that smoked and that group included my own mother It was something that people did It was a social activity However by the time that I was in high school the image of smoking had changed Smoking was seen as a bad habit or at the very least an unhealthy one Most of my relatives including my mom had quit smoking and the few that still did were the more reckless ones Then after college when I was firmly in the workplace I saw people who smoked get even more marginalized They were treated like second class citizens Now few workplaces allow smoking inside and and fewer public buildings allow it I find this shift in societal attitude interesting On a more personal front I have never been a smoker myself The habit never appealed to me I was never disgusted by the habit or thought less of the people who did smoke In fact before I was married I even dated a few women who smoked People would ask me how could I kiss someone who tasted like an ashtray Well I never envisioned those women that way and none of them were chain smokers They were people who liked to have a smoke when they drank or were stressed out Another factor in my choice to not smoke is the fact that one of my grandfathers died of lung cancer That was not a pleasant way to leave this planet and it was certainly not something that I wanted to experience personally Finally on a much lighter note these three jackets were not staged by me They have been hanging in the same closet at work for weeks At first there was just the light tan one Then suddenly it was joined by the other two From what I can tell all of them are the same size which leads me to wonder if they are owned by the same woman Does this rebellious office woman wear a different one each time she smokes Or do three women who smoke all happen to be the same size and like the same style of jacket
