Chemotherapy Port for Cancer Treatment

Life Summed Up for a Cancer Survivor Fingers Perpetually Crossed

The fingers of a cancer survivor are always crossed Saw my oncologist in January for unexplained bruising and fatigue and he sent me for a scan and said quot fingers crossed quot Scan turned out ok just had an infection Just a minor scrape with the sword of Damocles that dangles over every Survivor s head I was diagnosed with Hodgkin s Disease quite advanced stage on February 14 2007 Treated with 8 cycles of ABVD chemotherapy in remission now for over 1 year But my fingers are still kept crossed

Survivor

I m a cancer survivor I m also a runner I wanted to create something that illustrated how much running means to me as cancer survivor On Valentine s Day last year I was diagnosed with Hodgkin s Disease At the time I was dangerously ill I had SVC syndrome from the extensive chest disease and had an abdominal mass the size of a basketball The only good thing about Hodgkin s Disease is even people like me with cancer literally everywhere still have at least a chance to obtain remission and perhaps even cure I finished eight months of chemotherapy in October 2007 I have now been in remission for a year Of course I owe my life to my oncologist nurses and family But I also owe it to running Running the hills and valleys around my home in Cleveland Ohio has taught me to persevere To struggle To make it through difficult stretches one moment at a time if necessary In this shot are my favorite Mizuno running shoes My Relay for Life medal My Livestrong bracelet My Relentless bracelet from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society The trophies in the background are a few of the awards I ve won in local races since getting into remission a minor miracle in itself because I have lung damage from the chemo I am a nature photographer with an interest in Civil War history so still lifes and intensely personal photos like this are not my forte but I wanted to give it a try Thanks for taking a look
