My last words to my 2 year old son before he died in foster care LOOK AT ME LUKE He looked me straight in the eye as I continued I LOVE YOU MORE THAN ANYONE WILL EVER LOVE YOU LUKE I LOVE YOU MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THE WORLD I LOVE YOU SO MUCH LUKE I AM TRYING TO GET YOU BACK THEY JUST WONT GIVE YOU BACK I kissed him and tried to act happy so as not to upset him but I was worried sick throughout the whole visit about him going back to that house especially with the scratches on his face When I mentioned the scratches to the visit supervisor and informed her he was always bruised and scratched even burnt she told me he had scratched his own face that is what his foster carer had told her My suspicion is the old lady let them all abuse my little baby and turned a blind eye to it Luke drove off in the back of the child safety car and I collapsed to the ground in front of the playground and cried and cried and cried I kept telling people I knew I was never going to see him again I was standing on the shore and looking out to sea He was in a boat drifting further and further out to see screaming quot DADDY DADDY quot I did a drawing for him but I was telling people quot I know I am never going to get to give it to him quot That is how strong the bond was between me and Luke I cried that whole week til I got the call that Luke was in intensive care When they finally let me in to see him half his brain was dead because he had been left lying so long with a fractured skull He was in a coma on morphein but when I said quot Lukey Daddy s here quot a tear came out of his eye I watched over the course of six days as Luke s brain died off and he lost control of each organ After the third day they wanted to turn off the machines as he was still not breathing on his own and had not done since his arrival at hospital I went to him in his coma and I said to him quot Luke you start breathing for Daddy right now quot and I started breathing real loud to show him I wanted him to breathe

Here s a link to more info <a href= http sunshinegirlonarainyday blogspot com 2008 07 no help unless youre pregnant html links >sunshinegirlonarainyday blogspot com 2008 07 no help unle < a> Here s the scenario A young woman ages out of foster care She enters the adult world totally on her own This young woman enters college and pursues her education She has chosen to postpone creating a family of her own until after she has finished school and has the financial and emotional resources to build a healthy marriage and family But when she hits a road bump and needs temporary assistance to get back on her feet this young lady applies for assistance and is told she cannot receive help with housing unless she is pregnant Now tell me quot How does this work towards pregnancy prevention Why should young women be advised to bring unwanted children in the world in order to acquire housing assistance quot TANF is what we used to refer to as quot welfare quot The acronym stands for quot Temporary Assistance for Needy Families quot It was created as part of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act which replaced AFDC Aid to Families with Dependent Children AFDC was a federal assistance program administered by the U S Department of Health and Human Services between 1935 1997 This program provided financial assistance to children whose families had low or no income My understanding is that the evolution from AFDC to TANF was part of an effort to provide temporary assistance to needy people in order to get them back on their feet and provide for themselves One of the stated purposes of TANF is quot To prevent and reduce the incidence of out of wedlock pregnancies quot You can provide all sorts of classes and instruction about not getting pregnant but when you tell a young woman that she has to choose between getting pregnant or being homeless getting pregnant becomes a method of survival

I attended counselling in Townsville with ATODS Alcohol Tobacco and other Drugs even though I had been off the drugs and was showing clean urine samples I did everything possible to try to get my son back but it fell on deaf ears Atods were my biggest weapon in my battle against drugs well I should say 2nd biggest The main reason I gave up drugs was for my son That didn t make any difference to The Department of child safety in Townsville I went in everyday and begged them for my son I was working as a housepainter making over a thousand a week I caught them giving my partner a visit without informing me I have a child safety affidavit with 6 years of abuse and neglect from Lukes Mother I have never been reported to The department of child safety These people have hurt me the most anybody could hurt me but I dont care about me what about my poor son they shifted from strangers house to strangers house It had already been decided I was never to get custody of my child Even though there are police records of Luke s mother giving him speed a can of bourbon and coke the cigarette burn I told child safety about when he was only one year old and that I have photos of and reports from womens shelters about how she had neglected her older two children child safety promised her if she left me and returned to Cairns they would give Luke to her I had been working and drug free for 6 months had accommodation with a single mum and her 2 children who both adored me and it was still not enough Each afternoon I would come home from work and the two kids would enquire quot When is Luke coming When is Luke coming quot No I would never be given a chance to be the father that everyone knew I was Someone must be held accountable for the death of my son If he was in my care I would be sitting in a jail cell right now no questions asked This stinks and I will not sit quietly and watch my son die and the people that tormented him his entire short life move onto the next poor family which is ripped
