Back on January 1 2008 I woke up in the morning with the left half of my face completely paralyzed I had Bell s Palsy Over time I regained partial use of the paralyzed muscles Now one year and three months later I am left with a big deficit on that left side I can t chew on the left side of my mouth I can t smile my left eye doesn t tear so I carry drops with me Because the muscles on the left side are flaccid that side of my face is starting to pull down I look horrible and refuse to have my photo taken Here my husband grabbed the camera to take a picture of Colby sitting on the sofa cushion The Bell s Palsy is usually very noticeable in photos but in this photo I barely see it because of how my face is positioned so I like it I don t want to go through the rest of my life not being in photos with my friends family and dogs but seeing my crooked face just makes me cry I hope to go to a plastic surgeon soon to see if there is anything that can be done to improve the appearance and symmetry of my face In this photo Colby is as cute as always I m glad I have this photo of the two of us together where I am looking rather normal Perhaps a surgeon can help fix me so I look a little like my old self I wasn t crazy about the middle aged me but funny how you never appreciate what you have until it s gone
