African American Family At Home
Immediately when I saw this photo I thought of Walker Evans It s large 8 quot by 10 quot and is in what looks to be its original very dirty frame Once I had the check written this photo was my big ticket item for the day I mentioned Walker Evans to the dealer Not surprisingly she d never heard of him I explained a bit about him and told her that he was the most famous American photographer ever which may not be exactly true Ansel Adams or Matthew Brady may be more famous I d put Evans first among equals myself Anyway then I said that if it was a Walker Evans photo I d sell it and give her half of the proceeds Naturally when I got back home the first thing I did was take the back off to see if it said anything What it says on the back hand stamp is quot Hughes Photo Co Balto Md No one said getting rich was going to be easy I never really imagined that it was an Evans the simularity in style the unstinting documentary approach is rather striking Maybe someone knows something about the Hughes Photo Company
