How long does an ear infection take to heal?

How long does an ear infection take to heal?

Alright, so I went to the hospital on sunday night and was told I have an ear infection. The gave me some medication for the pain and an antibiotic. The next day I went to CVS and got the medication and have been taking it twice daily like it says for the last three days. I feel better when the medication is in but once it wears off I'm in some pain again. I've also been using drops. Is it normal to still be in some pain when the medication wears off?
Also how much longer should it take to fully heal?
