Default How common is obstructive sleep apnea is children?

We've never had a problem with her weight.She has been to a sleep study and had X-rays on her adnoids. She hes abnormally large tonsils and adnoids.
She is set up for surgery I was just curious as to how common it is?

This is not my expertise, but I should think it was more prevelant among overweight children.
Having said that, there are possible other reasons why sleep apnea occurs; not least tonsil problems.

[edit] as the guy below wrote, it's more common than might be thought. But because children (on the whole) tend to have less 'looseness' generally in tissue of their throat and mouth and a clear air passage through the nose, the problem is less recognised as apnea.

It really is more common than what we as parents like to think. If you think that your child is having sleep apnea, it is very important to get it checked out immediately. Allowing sleep apnea to go on without getting help with it can cause multiple health problems in the future. These can include heart failure, stroke, heart attack...etc.
