The Office of Minority Health (OMH) coordinates and monitors activities across the Department in disease prevention, health promotion, service delivery, and research related to racial and ethnic minority populations. OMH increases participation of Operating Divisions of the Public Health Service in health service and health promotion programs; maintains a national minority health resource center and develops effective materials and teaching programs; supports research, demonstrations, and evaluations; to test new and innovative programs, to increase knowledge and understanding of health risk factors, and to develop mechanisms that support better information dissemination, education, prevention, and service delivery to racial and ethnic minority groups; coordinates minority health programs and policies with voluntary and corporate sectors; and assists providers of primary and preventive care in obtaining bilingual assistance.
